A BRIEF HISTORY OF SHIT

with a nod to Stephen Hawking…

From incredible conception to credible collapse

From no shit to deep shit
From alpha why? to omega why?    

Note: “Nonsense” could be substituted for ‘shit’ for they are synonyms. It will become clear though not literally synonymous, artificial intelligence is ‘shit’. But neither “we are in deep nonsense”, nor “we are in deep artificial intelligence”, resonate as effectively as “we are in deep shit”. Nor do “nonsense” or “artificial intelligence” convey the disgust we should feel  for destroying ‘Mother Nature’ with the ‘shit’ we’ve excreted since the birth of humanity. 

                                                  Our ‘Digestive’ System

A void was, eons before the first why. Scientists guess the material of the universe was created by a ‘cosmic fart’ from a black hole, 14 billion years ago. From it sometime later a force we call ‘Mother Nature’ began conceiving and giving birth to life, at least on Earth. Among the conceptions was the fetus of humanity. So ages ago, our history began. Given the deep ‘shit’ we are in, our history may end before we agree after “the last why” is a void. 1

Like all conceptions, ours was inspired by Nature to “reach out to the limits of its capacities, to others and to Nature’s God”, Nature’s essential, self-creative, activity. With its natural activity our conception realized our physical capacity, acquired natural intelligence, and by 200,000 years ago, our predecessors realized the mental capacity that enabled our ‘mother’ to ask “Why am I?”, the question of meaning that gave birth to humanity. 2

By Nature’s design all individuals have unique capacities but common natural intelligence. Therefore, our predecessors “reached out to the limits of their capacities, to others and to Nature’s God”, on parallel paths. So there was no conflict. Consequently, during our history prior to the ‘birth’ of humanity, the natural activity that sustained the life of our forebears  and was characterized by peace, guided the history of humanity toward self-realization. 3

The birth of humanity marked the beginning of the change both in our activity and in the direction of our history. There was no intent. Our ‘parents’ changed the direction of our history unwittingly after our birth when they found the answer to “why am I?”, is unknown. They had an innate fear of the physical unknowns. So, when they found the metaphysical unknown in their minds they reacted by creating ‘shit’ with which they’d try to fill the void. 4

Our ‘parents’ reaction to the void was the cosmic ‘brain fart’ that initiated the flow of the deep ‘shit’ we’re in. Though they created their first ‘shit’ with natural activity, trying to fill the void with ‘shit’ is not natural activity. So, “trying to fill the void”  is uncommon, optional, self-destructive, unnatural activity. Being the opposite of natural activity, unnatural activity pulled the history of humanity down from self-realization toward active self-destruction. 5

There is one last defining trait that separates natural and unnatural activity, their effects at our individual level. “Reaching out to the limits of our capacities, to others and to Nature’s God” generates peace and life. In opposition, being directed toward the void within us, our ‘shit’ conflicts with our ‘’reaching out..’’, conflicts with the ‘shit’ of others or their “reaching out..”, and conflicts with Nature reaching out to us. The effects are conflict and death. 6

For many millennia, it was just increasing unnatural activity that dragged humanity away from self-realization. Then, likely at the start of modernity, an ancestor decided they’d had enough of trying to fill the void with ‘shit’, and quit life. Thus, “giving up” became a second reaction to the void. It is common, optional, passively self-destructive, unnatural inactivity. When “giving up” we become dead weight. The end result is passive conflict and death. 7

There’s a third reaction to the void. Unlike “trying to fill the void” and “giving up”, we had no role in creating the “ideal reaction to the void”. It is the natural activity that created us. For eons, it kept our history on course toward self-realization. By choosing to “reach out to the limits of our capacities, to others and to Nature’s God”, we leave the void behind and may never give up. It is essential for life; but we can to any extent “try to fill the void”, or “give up”.  8

Each of us has a genetically set quota of life activity. In theory, we can fill our quota with natural activity, the ideal, which generates peace and life. In fact, we cannot fill it with either unnatural activity or unnatural inactivity. Alone or in any combination, these would cause conflict resulting in death. Conditionally we can fill our quota with an amount of natural activity and a complementary amount of either unnatural activity or unnatural inactivity. 9

The condition is the quota of life activity we give to humanity by summing our individual quotas. The deep ‘shit’ we’re in now indicates the sum of our collected shit’ is far greater than the sum of our natural activity. So though it’s possible for one of us to try increasing our natural activity a bit by flushing that bit of shit, we’re resisted by the shit of humanity. Still, if the number of us trying increases, resistance to change decreases making it easier. 10

                                                         Increasing ‘shit’

When our ‘mother’ asked “why am I?”, the question of meaning that gave birth to humanity and discovered the void, it would have seemed to be the size of, and been able to cause the fear of, a pinhole. But ongoing searches for the ideal ‘shit’ in them, reduced unknowns around the void and increased its apparent size and effect to that of a black hole. Fear of it, and the rate of making ‘shit’ for tries to fill the void, increased accordingly. 11

The rate of replacing natural activity with ‘shit’ increased slowly and steadily until about 10k years ago when agriculture and ‘civilization’ began taking root. As time to make up shit’ increased, unnatural activities became greater than decreasing natural activities; reaction to the void surpassed the reaction to nature; “trying to fill the void” became greater than trying to fill stomachs; and our history transitioned from self-realization to self-destruction. 12

After the transition, the rate of self-destruction began indicating an exponential increase as our history entered the Industrial Revolution. Since then the rate of our tries to fill the void with industrial ’shit’ continued to accelerate. At the present time the rate at which we’re being buried by ‘shit’ is near terminal velocity. What’s left of peace, life and self-realization is decreasing, and conflict, death and self-destruction are increasing accordingly. 13    

                                                               Our ‘Shit’

It was a reasoned guess the nightmare of “deep shit” we are living in began with a dream. Our ‘parents’ were born with a natural system programmed for them to survive. But having just begun to think, they had no thoughts in their minds. It was also a reasoned guess our ‘parents’ first thoughts would be about the dreams they were having. So it seemed logical to guess our ‘parents’ first try to fill the void would have been initiated by their dreams. 14

Evidently, our ‘parents’ eventually concluded dreams were an invisible essence of their lives. This conclusion incidentally resolved an observation that had likely puzzled them before the first why. They had long associated death with blood loss. But death without the loss of blood remained a mystery until they imagined their invisible essence dreamed, kept them alive for some time, then left them when they died, often without the loss of blood. 15

However, their conclusion also caused a problem for humanity that may remain unresolved for lack of time. The belief in an invisible essence, later called a spirit, gave our ‘parents’ the food for thought needed to digest and excrete the first ’shit’. They decided their first try to fill  the void would be to maintain a relationship with the spirits of the dead. This try to fill the void cut our ties with Nature and began to accumulate our self-destructive ‘shit’. 16

There’s evidence our predecessors buried their dead prior to the first why. But caring for their spirits increased as they considered how spirits may continue to affect their lives. For assurance they added a funeral to burials. Then they interred bodies with the tools, weapons and supplies of food their spirits would need to continue their existence after life. Finally, they believed they should maintain contact with the spirits by visiting their graves.  17 

So metaphorically, our ‘parents’ loaded a cartridge of belief in spirits and related rituals into our ‘shit gun’, pointed it up to the present and fired. The spread of ‘shit’ resembles the cone shaped diagram often illustrating the creation of the universe after the ‘cosmic fart’. It was shaped by increasing population, migration, and the need to add ‘shit’ to perceived inadequate inherited ‘shit’, for they found when trying to fill the void, more is never enough. 18

The first ‘shit’ is called “animism”. It exists today. But, it spread into Shamanism, Totemism, Naturism/phisolatry eg. Shinto; Polytheism eg. Greek, Roman and Norse gods; Hinduism; and Monotheism. Hebrews created Almighty God. Christians divided God into the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Islam borrowed the Father. Sikhs made up their own God. So ‘shit’ has evolved from only a spirit to the Holy Spirit; and from a no name essence to Almighty God. 19

The estimates are 250,000 people attended Pope Francis’ funeral in 2026. Millions to billions around the world watched. Several million a year will revisit his grave. 5 symbolic items were placed in his coffin. Since the first ‘shit’ only the numbers have changed. Our ‘parents’ talked to a lowly spirit. Pope Leo communicates with the Holy Spirit. Our ‘parents’ talked to a deceased elder. Now believers talk to Almighty God often through His Son.  20

No matter how the first ‘shit’ branched, the offshoots can be traced back to the original ‘shit’. To keep the “Brief History of Shit” brief, here is an excerpt from: “Life: a reaction to the void”. It is comprehensive but not exhaustive for recall, when trying to fill the void, more ‘shit’ will never be enough. Historically, when sensing shit was failing more was added. Tragically we never learned more ‘shit’ doesn’t make ‘shit’ better. More ‘shit’ makes ‘shit’ deeper. 21

Now leading tries to fill the void
Is AI, but it’s more than tough.
Like all the other ways we try
More data will not be enough.
So second on the endless list
There's money and the life it buys.
Religious/philosophical
Beliefs are also in our tries.
It matters not which ones we choose.
There’re all just ‘shit’ that we’ve made up.
The conflict that they cause ensures
Our lives will be an empty cup.
We have political beliefs.
We vote for those that seem to fit
Our notion of which ways to go
Despite the fact they’re made up ‘shit’.
250 million books
Gives academia a try.
They research endlessly but still
All fail to answer “why am I?”
With science and technology
We’ve tried non-stop without success
To fill the void. Instead we’ve made
A gross environmental mess.
We try with drugs, sex, games, fast food
And alcohol to numb our brains,
Then mix in social media,
With hope none of the void remains.
We try with love and family,
Jobs, power and preeminence.
Directed inward, tries oppose
Thus end in deadly violence
Which will increase along with our
Accumulating pile of ‘shit’,
For when we try to fill the void
We’ll never see the end of it.
Not even with the best AI
Will we slow down ‘shit’ we excrete.
To save what’s left of life we had
We need to flush the ‘shit’ we ‘eat’.

                                                       Conclusion

Given conflict is dominating and destroying our lives, and knowing the source is mostly ways we try to fill the void, we’re all more or less full of ‘shit’. The more ‘shit’ we’re full of, the more conflict we cause. To the degree we cause conflict we have ‘shit’ for brains. Now, at the start of 2027, the conflict within us, between us and with Nature’s God has never been greater. With our help, Trump, Putin, Netanyahu and Leo are causing the most conflict. 22

The 2026 “planetary health check dot org” should be frighting. The doctors examining the planet’s health report that of the 9 planetary boundaries we must not cross if we are to prevent our extinction, we have breached 7. Still, surprisingly they say we can regain control if we begin now, as you continue reading. More discouraging is the evidence that despite the warnings our climate is breaking down we continue to live as if there will be a tomorrow. 23

We can’t listen to the AI salesmen. They are selling ‘shit’. Humanity was born with natural intelligence. From the first brain fart our ‘parents’ began replacing our natural intelligence with artificial intelligence. The accumulating ‘shit’ has been causing our ongoing self-destruction. Even without the aid of computers, the AI we’ve been creating will completely destroy humanity. Feeding our ‘shit’ into machines will just accelerate the historical process. 24 

There is no telling what humanity could have been had our ‘parents’ not begun trying to fill the void. If it is not too late to catch a glimpse of what might have been, we won’t with big plans or grand schemes. We simply have to flush our ‘shit’. There won’t be anyone to care if we don’t flush our ‘shit’ and soon complete our self-destruction. Until then however, we’ll be confirming our asininity by letting our unnatural reaction to nothing destroy everything. 25
